The communities of Hessel and Cedarville treasure a rich history built upon the boating, fishing, lumbering and tourist industries. Visit our museums and see the displays of artifacts showing many details from the past.
Les Cheneaux Historical Museum

In a log cabin and log addition, you find displays of artifacts showing the development of the communities of Hessel and Cedarville since 1884. Indian artifacts and tools from the logging era, photographs and artifacts relating to the frontier life of early settlers, the hotel and tourist periods and the wooden boat era.
Discover the geology of the islands and find books and postcards of the history.

The Log Cabin and Exhibit Hall is located on Meridian Road, one block south of the M-129 and M-134 intersection in Cedarville.
Les Cheneaux Historical Maritime Museum

In the 1920's O.M. Reif Boathouse are displays of vintage boats, marine artifacts, antique outboard motors, historic photos of area boating and a gift shop.
The Maritime Museum is located on the corner of M-134 and Lake Street, 4 blocks east of the M-129 and M-134 intersection in Cedarville.

Sponsors of the Annual "Antique Wooden Boat Show" and "Festival of Arts" in Hessel - always the second Saturday in August.
Museums are open from Memorial Day weekend to one week after Labor Day.
Regular hours are:
Weekdays 10 am to 5 pm
Sundays 1 pm to 5 pm
In June we are closed Sundays and Mondays, except for Sunday, June 27th
