Les Cheneaux Golf Club - The True "Natural"

A traditional links in its essential features, the Les Cheneaux Golf Club was laid out and chartered by the early members of the Les Cheneaux Club.   It was ready for play in May of 1898, and is, thus, the oldest still-playable links in Michigan.

Play is from the water and back to the water, sand and water are both natural hazards (as are forest and rock), and the design of the grounds is dictated by the land, not imposed on it.   By 1900, the Club had posted both a professional nine-hole record score of thirty-eight (by W.V. Hoare) and an amateur record of forty-one.

Though there have been some changes since the very early years (lengthening some holes, for instance) the essential character of the links has changed little.   Many of the hazards are overgrown piles of the fieldstone cleared from the original fairways and the perpetual hazards of the forest and rock outcrops are still challenging.

Come and enjoy our natural beauty and golf heritage.

Hessel Ridge Golf

Hessel Ridge Golf course is a beautiful, rolling 18-hole layout set on a wooded ridge above the town of Hessel and northern Lake Huron.

All fairways are tree-lined with generous landing areas.   The mixture of hardwoods affords a sense of privacy and serenity to each fairway.   No residential development or similar distractions encroach this park-like setting.   The size and quality of the ladies' tee areas are equal to or better than the back tees.   On all holes, the ladies' tees are also placed substantially forward of the back tees to present a more equal challenge.   Holes 16 and 18 are water holes that are ideally played across the pond.   Fairway room around the pond has been provided for players with less carry.

Hessel Ridge provides food, beverages and a modest pro shop at the clubhouse.   The oversized deck is particularly attractive for a little relaxation while watching other golfers finish their rounds.   The course itself is number one at Hessel Ridge and is appropriately maintained as such.   Other golfing facilities are available for those who extend their stay.

Hessel Ridge Golf is outstanding golf at a moderate price.

On 3 Mile Road north of M-134, in Hessel.
