| Les Cheneaux Islands Art Gallery displays the works of Hessel native, Diana J. Grenier, as well as a selection of other local artists. Works include original art, using several media: pastel, oils, acrylic and watercolor paintings, pen and ink and pencil drawings, bronze and terra-cotta sculpture. Much of the original art is available as limited edition prints, framed and ready to hang in your home, business or cottage. Notecards and 'fridge magnets from the original art. Diana's work has been used as the official Les Cheneaux Islands Antique Wooden Boat Show poster for many years, and all of our posters are in stock and framed. Other gift items available in the gallery include Les Cheneaux Islands themed etched glassware, painted furniture and clever decorative art objects. Up North Studio is the creative space where much of the art displayed in our gallery is produced. Up North Studio is also where John Grenier makes traditional hand-lettered signs. John began lettering boats in the Les Cheneaux Islands in 1977, under the guidance of a legendary local character, Master Signwriter Carl Malmquist. Up North Studio is where the original "Les Cheneaux Islands" car window stickers are made. We are open May through September, Tuesday to Sunday, when the open sign is on. | |||||

| Taste one of the authentic flavors of northern Michigan, and visit our cozy sugar shack under a canopy of gorgeous maple trees. Our store is stuffed with syrup in a variety of containers and sizes, plus delicious sauces, maple candies, sugar, glazed pecans and packaged gift boxes. Pure maple syrup products are unique to northeastern North America where the sugar maple is native. Our limestone-based maple grove assures the best clear flavor of pure maple syrup. We take pride in using the highest standard to make quality syrup. Anyone who lives in Northern Michigan knows that the smell of boiling sap is one of the first signs of spring. The sugar maple sap starts to flow when the late winter nights are still cold and the days are beginning to warm. That's when the sap is collected and processed to become maple syrup and maple sugar. A tapped tree normally produces up to twelve gallons of sap during a good year. It takes approximately 40 gallons of sap to make one gallon of syrup. We are located 3 miles north of Cedarville and 3 miles east on Swede Road. Visit and tour our operation or come-in and see our line of maple products any time of the year.
